When something goes wrong

  • The score scrolls but drifts from the recording. Run Set up again from the Practice tools drawer and add a sync point near where it goes wrong, then check each point with Play and nudge it. If the drawer warns that the chart looks bars short or long, the chart is missing or has an extra section: fix it in the score editor, then Re-check points.
  • The PDF will not convert. It is probably a scan or a photo rather than an engraved chart. The converter needs the engraving.
  • Some bars came through wrong. Open the score in the editor and fix them. Convert before you correct: converting again replaces the score, corrections included.
  • A take says Nothing was heard. Microphone permission, the right input, and the meter moving when you hit. Then recalibrate.
  • A take says Recalibrate at the level you actually play at. Calibrate with ordinary hits, not a demonstration.
  • MIDI (e-kit) is greyed out. Safari has no Web MIDI; use Chrome or Edge, or the line-out fallback. In Firefox, install the site permission when prompted and choose MIDI again.
  • No MIDI input found. Module on and connected before the page loaded, cable good, and no other app holding the port. Unplug and replug, then choose the port again.
  • Pads light the wrong drum, or nothing lights. Teach the kit map under Practise → Setup.
  • A MIDI take reads consistently early or late. Set an offset under Practise → Setup, MIDI (e-kit). Bluetooth links need one; USB rarely does.
  • A take on a song reads consistently early or late. On an e-kit, run the timing check first (Practise → Setup, MIDI section): it sets the song timing offset from a click, which is more reliable than taking it from a song. The result offers two fixes, and which one is right depends on how far it goes. If every song reads off by about the same amount, it is the computer’s audio setup: press Apply to all songs, which sets your song timing offset. It corrects every song on that computer and moves no song’s sync, and you can see, type or clear it under Practise → Setup, below the MIDI section. Each computer needs its own. If only one song reads off, the chart sits slightly off that recording: press Shift sync, or use Set up again and Shift every point on the review. A shift applies to that song and recording only, and the Song setup summary shows the running total beside “Synced at N points”. A MIDI offset cannot fix a take that reads early: it only ever moves hits earlier. If you have one set on a USB kit, clear it.
  • The playhead starts late after the count-in, finishes short of the last barline, and the take or warm-up step is discarded with a message about the sound output. The computer is reporting that sound takes half a second or more to reach its output. On Bluetooth, AirPlay or a TV, switch to a wired or built-in output. If you are already on one, restart the computer: the fault is in its sound system, and restarting the browser does not clear it.
  • A song says YouTube wouldn’t play this video here. YouTube has refused to play the video inside Groove IO, and the chart scrolls on a timer instead. Rate my playing switches itself off, because there is no recording to rate against; press it again once the song plays. This usually happens on a VPN, when YouTube asks you to sign in before it will play. Turn the VPN off and reload the page. If you are not on a VPN, the video’s owner may have stopped it playing on other sites: the message links to the video on YouTube, or you can give the song a different link or upload the audio.
  • A kit says it could not be loaded. Playback continues on the built-in drum sounds. Check the connection and choose the kit again.
  • A shared link stopped working. The owner revoked it, unpublished the groove, or the groove was taken down; the page says which.
