Teaching

Run your roster, not your inbox. The Educator plan carries a roster of up to twenty-five students. A student account is free, and never pays to receive what you send. While they are on your roster they can record scored takes and send recordings back, on the strength of your plan.

Invite a student

  1. Open Students in the sidebar and press Invite a student.
  2. Send the link however you like. It is single-use.
  3. Your student opens it, sets their own password, and appears on your roster. You never handle a login. Open invites lists links not yet used.

The invite asks your student one question: Let my teacher see my practice, ticked to start with. They can change the answer at any time under Your teacher in Settings, and the Practise page tells them while it is on.

A student has one teacher. Unlink removes them from your roster and takes back everything you shared with them the same minute, without deleting anything they made from it.

Share a song, a setlist, a score or a groove

On anything you own, and on any catalogue groove, press Share and choose the student. The dialog shows who already has it, and stopping a share is the same control. What you share lands in the student’s library under From your teacher, with your note on it, and when email is set up they get a message saying you shared it. On a score, a note can be pinned to a bar. Take the share back and it goes, without touching anything the student made from it. A copy your student makes of a groove you shared sits outside their groove allowance, so what you set them never competes with what they have kept for themselves.

On a groove or a score, the dialog also takes a Target tempo (bpm) and a By (date). Your student sees them on the card, for example “Target 110 bpm · by 3 Oct · In progress”, and so do you. The status is worked out from their takes: Not started until they play it, In progress once they have, and Done once a take reaches In the pocket or above at the target tempo. With no target, Done means In the pocket or better at any tempo. Your student can answer any share with a one-line reply, which shows under your notes with their name on it.

A warm-up routine can be shared the same way, including one of the shipped ones: it carries the By (date) but no target tempo, and turns Done as soon as your student has a run of it since you shared it, whatever tier it came in at.

See how they are getting on. Open a student from your roster. The roster says when each one last practised, and a student’s page starts with their Progress: the last seven days, their streak, the grooves and scores they played most recently, and where they stand on each ladder. Each share on the page says Seen or Not opened yet. A student who has turned off Let my teacher see my practice shows as Private on your roster, their shares say Practice private where the status would be, and nothing about their takes reaches you.

Recordings

Recordings is a two-way exchange. Either of you presses Add a recording and either records in the browser (video up to 3 minutes, or audio only up to 10 minutes) or uploads a clip (MP4, QuickTime or WebM, up to 50 MB), then chooses who to share it with: a teacher sends a demonstration to any student on the roster, a student sends a take up to their teacher. Every share carries its own note thread, so a note about bar 12 sits on the recording of bar 12. What you write to one student is invisible to every other. Either side can take a share back without deleting the recording. Educator includes a gigabyte of storage across everything sent and received; Studio lifts the cap.
