Warm-ups

A warm-up that runs itself.

Six routines ship with Groove IO: a short and a full version for every day, before a gig and before practice. Press play once and each step counts you in, plays its bars the set number of times and steps up the tempo by itself. With Rate my warm-up on, every step is scored as it finishes, and any routine can be copied and rebuilt from your own grooves.

Every plan is free while we’re in early access. No card.

Warm up before you play

Singles, doubles, paradiddles, moving accents and rolls, ramping from a comfortable tempo to an uncomfortable one. Press play once: each step counts you in and the routine moves on by itself.

How a routine runs

  • Every take, kept

Each scored take goes on your record: a list of takes, a twelve-week report, your streak, and the best tempo you have held on every groove you play.

  • What to play next

Six ladders order the catalogue, starting with four grooves for the very first session and running from a basic rock beat to linear funk. The app reads your takes and suggests the next groove, the tempo to try it at, and why.

The patterns worth knowing by heart

Second line, son clave, bossa, half-time shuffle, jazz ride. Open one, play it at any tempo, then save a copy and make it your own. The catalogue itself never changes, so what you learned last month is still there.

Questions

What is in a routine?
An ordered list of steps, each one groove’s bars at a tempo, played a number of times. Six ship: a short and a full version for every day, before a gig and before practice.
Are the rudiments in there?
The shipped routines are built from singles, doubles, paradiddles, moving accents and rolls. The forty international rudiments have their own section, each engraved with its sticking under every stroke, and any of them can be practised and scored like a groove.
Can I make my own?
Yes. Make a copy turns a shipped routine into yours, and New routine starts from nothing. Add step picks any groove with at least one bar, including your own, and you set the tempo and the number of passes per step.
Does it tell me how I did?
With Rate my warm-up on, each step’s row picks up a small rating as it finishes, and when the routine ends the page shows the full verdict for every step and then one for the whole routine.
Which plan?
Warm-ups are on every plan; Free keeps one routine of its own. Download routine as MIDI turns any routine into a Standard MIDI File for your DAW or e-kit.
